The Mother Earth Water Walk began on April 10th in Aberdeen, Washington.  In the 8 years that Josephine, Ojibway Grandmother has been walking around the Great Lakes, more and more attention has been given to this sacred ceremony that is gaining international participation and attention. This Wednesday, April 13th, Billy, president of the Mi’kmaq Friendship Centre and Florestine Bird blessed the airwaves with a talk about water on Yogaheart Radio.  We talked about the upcoming Mother Earth Water Walk we will be having here in Halifax on Mother’s Day, May the 8th and we were also joined by Catherine Abreu, of the Ecology Action Centre to talk about exploration and extraction of Natural Gas (known as ‘Fracking‘) from Shale and its devastating and irreversible effects on the ground water and the acquifers.

There will be a demonstration on Earth Day April 22nd, where concerned people will be gathering on the front steps of the Nova Scotia Legislature bringing a sample of water to leave on the steps to show the importance of preventing both the exploration for and extraction of ‘Shale Gas’. If you would like to find out more information about this you can contact the Ecology Action Centre to find out what you can do to represent for the water too!

On Mother’s Day, in honour of the Earth Mother, there will be a public Walk for the Water held in Point Pleasant Park, Halifax at 1:00 pm.  This walk will end at the Mi’kmaq Friendship Centre for a potluck meal. If you would like to contribute to the potluck, you can drop the food off at the centre at 11:00 am and then head down to the park for the walk.

See you there!!
