Looking at and admiring mandalas is called “mandala gazing” and is an enjoyable and therapeutic practice having a long list of benefits. Drawing mandalas and colouring them in adds to this list of benefits and is a lot of fun too.
It is an ancient practice and form of yoga called Yantra Yoga used by many different traditions. The images we create combine both creativity and freedom with symmetry and logic, and helps to balance the right and left hemispheres while creating a harmonizing and meditative effect on the mind. Even the method we use to draw the mandalas can be nourishing, and addresses the aspect of mind that can become quite chaotic or distracted at times. Mandala drawing improves our powers of concentration while deepening our relaxation. This practice has the potential to be healing on a very deep level.
Mandee’s Mandala Drawing workshop is offered at times throughout the year and welcomes both those who have attended in the past, as well as those attending for the first time. You do not need to have any experience at all with drawing or meditation to enjoy the event or to create a beautiful mandala. Anyone can learn this drawing technique, and it will be taught at the beginning of the session along with an introduction to mandalas. For the rest of the session we will be drawing within the comfort of a meditative atmosphere. Little meditation instructions and reminders to breathe will be offered throughout the evening with soft music playing in the background.
The cost of supplies and materials are included in the tuition. If you have your own favourite pens and geometry equipment, you are encouraged to bring them.
About the instructor: Mandee was trained and certified in the art and science of Chakra Yoga over 15 years ago and has been teaching ever since. Included in this comprehensive and traditional approach to yoga is the science of Yantra Yoga, often referred to as the study of sacred geometry. Mandee also specializes in meditation and Advaita Vedanta, and seeks unique ways to offer meditation such as through drawing, chanting, nature walks and more.
